We can clear that acre in minutes. On the other hand consider an acre that is completely overgrown with large eighteen to twenty-four inch diameter cedar trees right next to each other. It will take days to clear that acre.

But, for some jobs, the extent of the work won’t be known until the work is well along. Many people want to start out with a couple of days of work to see the progress for themselves. Based on the results they see the scope of the job frequently increases as they see how quickly the dramatic improvement comes. In this case the job begins at an hourly rate and may or may not later convert to a fixed price job.
